Hey, has anyone here picked up the Toy Story 2 DVD yet? If so, have you had any trouble with it? I tried to watch my copy last night, and I had some bizarre things happen. Don't want to say what right now, so I don't bias responses, but I'll give the details in a day or two.So, anyone have a problem with the disc, or did yours work fine? IP: Logged |

I'm glad to hear that other people's versions are working fine. I picked up the Ultimate Toy Box version (3 disc set), and had some problems with TS2. First, none of the supplemental material would play and my DVD player would register a disc error. So we decided to watch the movie, and right after Jessie's (insipid) song, TS2 stopped playing and we were dropped into the middle of "High Fidelity", just in time to hear some character use the F word twice in 15 seconds. After one clear scene, HF continued with so much video noise that the characters looked like they were in the video witness protection program I returned the set and picked up another one last night. So far, so good; but I feel compelled to watch all the discs all the way through now, just to be sure they're all O.K. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.

You didn't like the When She Loved Me song? I thought it was one of the better 'animated movie songs' in a long while. It didn't seem randomly thrown in, and it wasn't a "Let's all forget what's going on, grab a partner and dance, dance, dance" or "Hear me sing about my evil motivations!" kind of song, to its benefit. No, I didn't. I thought that it had that Broadway-esque "ramping up to a song" in front of it. You know, when the character says something that you just know is going to lead into a song. That always annoys me. I also thought that the way it was sung drew way too much attention to itself, unlike Randy Newman's song for Buzz in TS2. It felt to me like Sarah McLaughlin sang it as a stand-alone piece, rather than in a style and with a technique that fit into the flow of the film. The sequence was good, but the song diminished it a little, IMHO. To each his own, I suppose.

It seems you may have had yourself a true "collector's edition" now that it has been confirmed that many others had the same problem in the 3-disc collector's set. I'm sure Pixar isn't too happy about this since the duplication was out of their hands. Yet they will still likely be affected by the financial impact of the recall, delays, and dare I say potential lawsuits?Joe Tracy IP: Logged |
