Well, the nominations are in for this year's Annie Awards. Read the list on Friday's Animation Artist update and let your voice be heard here. What was the biggest surprise in the list? Who was surprisingly ignored? Are the Annie Awards credible?Joe Tracy IP: Logged |

I can't really think of anyone who could have possible been ignored. I suspect that Toy Story II is probably going to sweep the Annies this year (I would vote for Chicken Run, but that's just me ) Between Chicken Run and Toy Story, the others probably don't stand a chance (WHO PUT TITAN A.E. ON THERE?!!!)IP: Logged |

I can't believe that "John Henry" is nominated. I want Disney to release this short. Nobody has seen it or has anyone and have I just missed it. What about for the birds. Maybe John Henry will be before TENG and For the birds will be in front of MONSTERS INC. Let's hope so. Fantasia 2000 should get some awards. Eric Goldberg should win and Paul and Gaetan Brizzi. I love their work. And of course Chicken run will pick up a few awards too. I don't think Road to El Dorado will win any award, neither will TITAN AE.That's just my opinion on these awards. Have a nice day!!! Rob ------------------ bye, Rob Jacobs!!! IP: Logged |

A couple of things kind of surprised me. One thing is that one of Cartoon Network's Shorties "Quick Draw El Kabong" got nominated. The shorties are shown when programs are shorter than the allotted time. They're unique takes on HB/MGM characters. I'm glad one got nominated and it's the only short nominated I've seen. Another thing that surprised me is Spy Groove's nomination. It did earn a well deserved one for production design but I'm not so sure about best prime time animated show. To me, Daria had its best season yet with a great developing storyline, some needed character development, and its usual smart dialogue. Also, why wasn't Roughnecks nominated for anything (this question is irrelevant if it was nominated last year)? Did the situation with episodes turn people off? Finally, if Stuart Little is considered an animated feature, likewise so is Rocky & Bullwinkle. Nobody liked that one, huh?IP: Logged |

This year's pickings are slim. There isn't any animation title that really stands out. It was not like last year where the obvious winner was the Iron Giant.Though I am surprise that Recess and Histeria were nominated. I consider that both of these shows to be bland. IP: Logged |

It seems to me that there must be a shortage of product out there if all that it takes to get nominated is just managed to get produced. IP: Logged |

I just read the nominees, and I have to say that the list overall looks like every list I've seen in the last six years. Most of the big guys are nominated, and a few deserving smaller productions are in there too. As to Joe's question about credibility, I think they're as credible as any other entertainment industry award. The studios nominate their pet projects, the list gets winnowed down by the award committee, and we're presented with a list of nominees. BTW, the nomination process could explain why "Walking With Dinosaurs" wasn't nominated. Without a Hollywood-based organization to nominate the production, it just slipped past (one has to be involved with the production in some way in order to nominate it). The show I would have liked to have seen get a nom or two is "Baby Blues", although it didn't premiere until after the nomination period ended. Don't know if that had an effect or not. IP: Logged |

Are they broadcast on TV or the internet or do we just wait for the winners to be posted on this site?------------------ Brian Edgerton, Future Animator ..................................................................................... The show is taped and may possibly be broadcast at a later date. Because it isn't shown live, we'll have the results posted here before it is broadcast.Joe Tracy IP: Logged |
