DMN: And you're located very close to Detroit, you're located right outside the city, aren't you?
Suggs: Yes, we're the suburbs. We're in the suburb of Southfield, Michigan.
DMN: Once you've finished a project, you briefly mentioned archiving. That's a big problem for a lot of facilities now. You must archive everything in HD so you can go back and re-cut if you want to.
Suggs: It depends on what the project is. Some work is more volatile than others. So, it really becomes a judgment call, but by and large, everything we do gets archived for long-term.
DMN: You have dozens of terabytes.
Suggs: We have 32TB SAN for film scanning and a 4TB NAS that we use for our everyday work, which is the material that the hives use.
DMN: That's online storage, but you also have near-line storage for archiving, too?
Suggs: Right. We archive near-line, and then we have network-attached storage for our day-to-day footage and graphics that we use. Each machine has its own local volume of storage as well.
DMN: Let's zoom out just a little bit. Looking forward, what is your biggest challenge in running your business?
Suggs: I would say that educating our clients about the benefits of this new workflow, this new technology that we've put in place for them, and getting them as excited about it as we are is a top priority. Actually, we?ve had a lot of demos for our clients, introducing them to our DI workflow and they immediately realize the benefits. It?s great to see how excited they get and how they?re able to see the benefits. Other priorities include diversifying our business. We want to develop business in and from other markets ? such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver -- and to compete for some of the long-format work. We have the people and we have the technologies in place and Milagro Post is focused on leading the way in commercial DI.
DMN: It looks like you're on the way toward accomplishing that, Michael, and I certainly do appreciate your talking with Digital Media Net today.
Suggs: Thanks, Charlie, it was a pleasure.
