Image From Bingo(March 2, 1999) The Maya-created animated short, "Bingo," has won the Canadian Genie Award for "Best Animated Short."  The Genie Awards are Canada's equivalent of an Academy Award in the U.S. and presented live on television.  The "Best Animated Short" Genie Award for "Bingo" was accepted by Chris Landreth, Andy Jones, and Kevin Tureski.

"I would like to thank the people who developed the software for making this possible," said Landreth in his acceptance speech.  He also thanked Jones and Tureski who produced "Bingo," the animators behind the creation, and Jim Lamars for the music score.

In 1996, Landreth was nominated for an Academy Award for another animated short he did called "The End."

"Bingo" was originally conceived by Alias|Wavefront as an extensive in-house quality assurance project aimed at rigorously testing and demonstrating the technical capabilities of the new Maya software. This in-house testing project soon became one of the most anticipated shows at SIGGRAPH 98 and impressed audiences by bringing the atmosphere and heightened realism of live performance theater to the CG world.
